Winter has been long.
Spring is coming…like the promise of an affair!
Since early October, when the sun left, everything became grey and started getting colder.
In December on some days temperatures dropped to around -10 … snow fell but then melted but by mid January everything was pretty much covered with white and was stunning.
It was fun walking in the snow …
As January came to a close I was feeling pretty proud of myself, that for someone who really hated the cold and short days, I had lived through a Petersburg winter and survived!
In early February we celebrated Maslenitsa, the last week before lent and which is also the pagan festival celebrating the the end of Winter and I have to confess I was excited.
Spring really was coming!
Ooh, something’s coming over me…Ooh, I think its got a hold on me, its got me, its got me…(to the sultry tones of Donna Summer)
From inside it looked radiant – the sun was out and the snow was sparkling ..it really looked like a diamond landscape.
Now I could have that love affair with Spring and I go walking in the forest, feet crunching on white crisp snow, enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather.
I got myself ready…and out I went!
But then it happened …I mean winter really happened!
Boy was I in for a shock when I stepped outside …the snow was crisp and crunched under my feet …but the air was beyond crisp… it actually hurt to breath.
It took less than 5 minutes until I was frozen from my toes to my exposed nose!
It wasn’t just me … girls with long hair had frozen hair
Whilst the snow was fresh the sunshine added a further level of waking difficulty …
The snow felt very slippery …
Adds a whole new meaning of going for a walk!
As I walked around the splendour of the landscape was just extraordinary …all the trees were blanketed in a gentle touch of fresh snow with the dark branches just peeking through …
…and then got a whole lot colder …its hard to explain but temperatures have dropped to -20C and with the windchill factor on some days just stepping out for 5 minutes is beyond explaining.
I only went out when I had to …!
So Spring is coming … I can see the buds on the tree outside my window …but seemingly it will still take some time …a bit like the promise of the affair…soon but not just yet!
Soon the temperatures will increase…
Need that affair to eventuate soon….Please….
Happy Bumbering!
