bumbering around

London Calling

So in this amazing digital world we live in does which country you live really matter?

I mean on how employers see you.

I would have said no but this week I have had an interesting experience which has made me take another look.

It is 3 years since I first arrived here in London Town, struggling with my bags, (have downsized to 1 bag now), determined that I would make this travel life happen and no real idea how it was going to work.

Looking back it really was an enormous leap of faith.

Or maybe just stupid brave!

I can’t believe how time has flown by and the adventures I have had.

Of course seeing my boys together for the first time in over 2 years was a treat.  The visit was short and sweet and as my girlfriend once said to me …

Fish and Families – 3 days!     We managed 4 and survived.

No seriously it was great!

Shakespeare, London pubs, fantastic food and awesome weather…Oh and the Royal Wedding and the FA Cup final

.

London was buzzing!

After the boys left it was a return to a more relaxed cafe lifestyle for me.

I really do love the working cafe culture here in London.  The space is really cool and I feel connected to an unconnected community….typing away on my computer just like everyone else, coffee and green tea on the side…

Or am I turning into that crazy old lady? … just need a couple of cats and I am there!

Now you all know that I have been supporting my travels by teaching but I have also tried to get work as a digital nomad, but no cigar.

I actually got to the point that I thought it was all a con and I have to say the pay grade ain’t so grand but having no fixed plans, limited financial options and lots of time on my hands, I thought I would give it one last try and suddenly the fishes are biting.

Why? you ask…

Maybe it is the new look CV or better timing or maybe I just got lucky but maybe it might also have something to do with my actual address….

London Calling!

I never really thought about it but my current passport looks ‘interesting’ at the very least!

I have completed the main trifecta… China, Vietnam and Russia and each time as a temporary resident.  Not necessarily a good look, particularly in the current geopolitical climate.

It could be a complete coincidence but in the last 2 days I have had 3 responses to 5 applications.  This is way more than a coincidence!

I think that the location really does matter and that when I was applying for jobs from ‘those’ countries employers had a look, raised an eyebrow and hit delete!

I completely understand – after all who would want Lenin, Uncle Ho or Mao looking over your shoulder!

Message to self Stay away from Cuba and North Korea.
